Wilanow Palace is an elegant baroque royal residence, located in Wilanow, south of the city centre. The palace was built in the 17th century for the king of Poland, Jan III Sobieski. The building comprises of elements of a nobility house, an Italian garden villa and a French palace in the style of Louis XIV. After the death of the King, the Palace became the property of his sons and in the following years it belonged of various Polish noble families. In 1805, one of the first museums in Poland was open in the Wilanow Palace. The museum houses the collections of paintings, sculpture, decorative arts and prints. Visitor can also see the splendid royal apartments. The palace is set amid extensive parkland, comprising: the Barogue Garden, the English Landscape Park, the English-Chinese Garden and the Rose Garden.
